Managed Open Water Swimming - Session 2

NEW for 2026 – Managed Open Water Swimming!

We are delighted to announce that we will be trialling managed open water swimming here at Tittesworth Watersports this summer with sessions running on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. We have been working closely with Severn Trent Water to introduce managed open water swimming to Tittesworth in a safe and accessible manner. Managed Open Water Swimming will only take place: at authorised times, within designated areas of the reservoir which have been confirmed as safe of underwater obstructions, where water sampling and water temperatures are measured to certain parameters, swim safety is provided and swimmers provide/wear mandatory safety equipment.

Please note swimming is still unauthorised at Tittesworth Reservoir outside of managed open water swimming sessions provided by Tittesworth Watersports Ltd.

Swim Course:

A 400M swim course marked by four large orange swim marker buoys and swam in an anticlockwise direction. After your pre activity swim brief you will be invited to enter the water between the two flags on the shoreline near the jetty. Please feel free to acclimatise to the water temperature before swimming around the course. Please only swim around the waymarked course provided.

Swimming Competence: you must be able to comfortably swim 400 metres without stopping and unaided.

Swim Session Duration: each session is 60 minutes which includes a 10 minute pre activity swim briefing and upto 50 minutes of access to the water swimming laps around the course provided.

Pre Activity Swim Briefing: please arrive at the registration desk located at the waters edge ready to swim for the start time of your booking. At the registration desk you will be required to sign in and notify the safety team of your previous experience and any relevant medical conditions. Car keys can be left with the team on the desk. A pre activity swim brief will then be provided detailing: an outline of the course, what to do if you need assistance, what to do in the event of a course evacuation and a reminder to sign out when leaving the water. You MUST ATTEND the swim brief in order to gain access to the water, access will be denied if you miss the swim brief and no refunds provided.

Please remember to sign out after exiting the water with the registration desk to reduce the risk of a ‘missing person’ scenario whereby subsequent swim sessions maybe delayed and emergency services time wasted. 

Mandatory Kit Required:

• Brightly coloured swim hat
• Swim tow float
• Pealess whistle to be attached to tow float
• A wetsuit is mandatory between water temperatures of 11 – 14 degrees Celsius. More information can be found in the Wetsuit policy below.

The kit items listed above are mandatory, failure to provide these items at registration will result in permission to swim not being granted. A small quantity of swim hats and whistles will be available to purchase and swim tow float available to hire from the registration desk. Fees apply.

Onsite facilities:

• Free car parking
• Toilets & changing rooms
• Outdoor showers (unheated)
• Tuck shop onsite selling hot drinks and basic snacks

Wetsuit Policy:

Wetsuits are mandatory below a water temperature of 14 degrees CelsiusPlease help to stop the spread of invasive species by cleaning and drying your wetsuit after each use.

Under 18’s Swimming Policy:

Swimmers under the age of 18 must: have consent from a parent/guardian to swim, have an over 18 on the bank spotting them whilst swimming, complete a swim competency test which will involve swimming 25 metres and demonstrating they can float on their back (self rescue). The minimum age allowed to swim is 12 years old.

Cancellation Policy:

A swim session maybe cancelled by Tittesworth Watersports if:

• A ‘Poor’ water quality result is received or there are visual signs of pollution or waste on the water.
• Air or water temperatures are below 11 degrees Celsius.
• A MET office weather warning is received for the local area.
• If it is deemed unsafe for the safety team to maintain line of sight with all swimmers eg. Mist, heavy rain, wind effecting surface water.

Where possible you will be notified 24hrs in advance if a session is cancelled by Tittesworth Watersports and the option of either a credit note or a full refund provided. All bookings made by you the customer are non refundable.
